  13. with illegal intentions, WESTWOOD STUDIOS deserves all the support they can
  14. get, for producing such a brilliant game.

  25. 1. Hey, is this legal?

  27. As long as you have purchased your own copy of Red Alert, then using this
  28. program is perfectly legit. You have already bought a copy and running it
  29. without the CD is not a crime. 
  30. For you pirates out there, this program won't work for you, since you actually
  31. require the CD for this prog to WORK!!

  34. 2. Hmm... But why should I put RA on my HDD??
  35.  
  36. - Simple. SPEED, if you don't have a 200mhz Pentium Pro you might find some 
  37. SPEED/SOUND Problems, in witch case your computer will CRASH...
  38. This will not only FIX those, but will also make MOVIE, SPEED, and SOUND
  39. a lot better.
  40.  
  41. - If you have a single speed CDROM drive, then Red Alert will not work.
  42. This program will allow you to play it on your computer!
  43.  
  44. - Network Games: If you have more than two computers, or only one CDROM drive,
  45. You might not be able to play Red Alert on all your PCs! This program will let
  46. PCs that don't have CDROM drives, or more than 2 computers to play over a LAN
  47.  
  48. - If you're a student with a laptop, playing red alert without the CD is far
  49. more convenient!

  52. 3. Cool! How much space do I need on my HDD?
  53.  
  54. Well, this might put you off.. the process will take 480 MB !!
  55. Wait, don't abandon hope, let's look at the long run:
  56. A. Red alert won't be hogging your hard disk for eternity..
  57. B. KICK-ASS games deserve it! 
  58. C. Playing Network Red Alert!!!!
  59. D. Let's make the most of your 1 - 2 Gig hard disk!

  62. 4. What the Hell!! 500 MB!!! Why does it take so much space!?!?!?
  63.  
  64. Main reason is because this program will let you run Red Alert will full sound,
  65. video, and graphics.. nothing is cut..
  66. You're probably asking: why don't I just ditch all the video? I actually have
  67. made v2.0 which disables the video, making red alert only 40 MB. Well if I did
  68. release this, v2.0 could be abused by pirates.

  71. 5. Oh, Alright. I'll Try It...But, How??
  72.  
  73. This is the easy part. RA-RIP V1.0 will only work for computers with CDROM as
  74. drive D and Hard Disk as drive C, and you must have Windows 95.
  75.  
  76. ALSO RED ALERT MUST BE INSTALLED INTO IT'S DEFAULT DIRECTORY! That is:
  77. C:\WESTWOOD\REDALERT
  78.  
  79. For all you idiots who know nothing about computers, I'll lead you through the
  80. whole thing.. first get your freshly purchased CD, and install Direct X 3.
  81. After that, install Red Alert. (it should take around 35 MB) Then configure it
  82. to your preferences.

  84. Once that's done, take the entire contents of this zipfile, and place it in:
  85. C:\TEMP directory. Put one of your Red Alert CDs into your CDROM drive.
  86. Then run the file RA-RIP.COM   Sit back and relax.. it might take a while..

  89. 6. God! That took ages! Do I have to do that everytime I want to play?

  91. NO, You only have to go to your C:\WestWood\RedAlert directory and find the 
  92. file "ALERT.COM"

  95. 7. Will there be an improved version of RA-NO_CD?
  96.  
  97. There already is (v2.0), but it probably won't be distributed. I've made one
  98. to work with any drive configuration, it's win95 and DOS compatible, and only
  99. 40 MB (instead of 500MB!!) is required. This is to PREVENT PEOPLE PIRATING.

  102. 8. Can I distribute this?

  104. Fine, if you must. But if you do, you must not alter the contents of any files
  105. in the ZIP.

  108. 9. How can I get support (hints and tactics) on such a brilliant game?

  110. Well, I don't have internet access.. and there is NO SUPPORT for RA-NO_CD.
  111. If you want help on Red Alert, such as tactics and tips; go and ask my friend:
