-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- 1. Hey, is this legal?
-
- As long as you have purchased your own copy of Red Alert, then using this
- program is perfectly legit. You have already bought a copy and running it
- without the CD is not a crime.
- For you pirates out there, this program won't work for you, since you actually
- require the CD for this prog to WORK!!
-
-
- 2. Hmm... But why should I put RA on my HDD??
-
- - Simple. SPEED, if you don't have a 200mhz Pentium Pro you might find some
- SPEED/SOUND Problems, in witch case your computer will CRASH...
- This will not only FIX those, but will also make MOVIE, SPEED, and SOUND
- a lot better.
-
- - If you have a single speed CDROM drive, then Red Alert will not work.
- This program will allow you to play it on your computer!
-
- - Network Games: If you have more than two computers, or only one CDROM drive,
- You might not be able to play Red Alert on all your PCs! This program will let
- PCs that don't have CDROM drives, or more than 2 computers to play over a LAN
-
- - If you're a student with a laptop, playing red alert without the CD is far
- more convenient!
-
-
- 3. Cool! How much space do I need on my HDD?
-
- Well, this might put you off.. the process will take 480 MB !!
- Wait, don't abandon hope, let's look at the long run:
- A. Red alert won't be hogging your hard disk for eternity..
- B. KICK-ASS games deserve it!
- C. Playing Network Red Alert!!!!
- D. Let's make the most of your 1 - 2 Gig hard disk!
-
-
- 4. What the Hell!! 500 MB!!! Why does it take so much space!?!?!?
-
- Main reason is because this program will let you run Red Alert will full sound,
- video, and graphics.. nothing is cut..
- You're probably asking: why don't I just ditch all the video? I actually have
- made v2.0 which disables the video, making red alert only 40 MB. Well if I did
- release this, v2.0 could be abused by pirates.
-
-
- 5. Oh, Alright. I'll Try It...But, How??
-
- This is the easy part. RA-RIP V1.0 will only work for computers with CDROM as
- drive D and Hard Disk as drive C, and you must have Windows 95.
-
- ALSO RED ALERT MUST BE INSTALLED INTO IT'S DEFAULT DIRECTORY! That is:
- C:\WESTWOOD\REDALERT
-
- For all you idiots who know nothing about computers, I'll lead you through the
- whole thing.. first get your freshly purchased CD, and install Direct X 3.
- After that, install Red Alert. (it should take around 35 MB) Then configure it
- to your preferences.
-
- Once that's done, take the entire contents of this zipfile, and place it in:
- C:\TEMP directory. Put one of your Red Alert CDs into your CDROM drive.
- Then run the file RA-RIP.COM Sit back and relax.. it might take a while..
-
-
- 6. God! That took ages! Do I have to do that everytime I want to play?
-
- NO, You only have to go to your C:\WestWood\RedAlert directory and find the
- file "ALERT.COM"
-
-
- 7. Will there be an improved version of RA-NO_CD?
-
- There already is (v2.0), but it probably won't be distributed. I've made one
- to work with any drive configuration, it's win95 and DOS compatible, and only
- 40 MB (instead of 500MB!!) is required. This is to PREVENT PEOPLE PIRATING.
-
-
- 8. Can I distribute this?
-
- Fine, if you must. But if you do, you must not alter the contents of any files
- in the ZIP.
-
-
- 9. How can I get support (hints and tactics) on such a brilliant game?
-
- Well, I don't have internet access.. and there is NO SUPPORT for RA-NO_CD.
- If you want help on Red Alert, such as tactics and tips; go and ask my friend:
